Welcome to the Town of Carney, Oklahoma |
|||
Owners of dogs running at large will begin being ticketed 11/01/08. |
We invite
you to spend a few minutes exploring our tiny gem of friendliness and feeling of
home. We are never quite sure how it happens, but once you have lived in Carney,
you never seem to want to leave. It is always home. Carney is nestled almost squarely in the middle of Oklahoma. It is located on Highway 177 nine miles North of Highway 66 (old Route 66). Interstates 35, 40 and 44 are all within easy access, making Carney a prime area for any business venture needing that access. Oklahoma City is only 45 miles away and Tulsa is only 75 miles. The population of Carney is 649 people according to the 2000 census. Our Pre K thru 12th grade school has approximately 275 students. We are a small class B school surviving in this world of large conglomerate school districts. Carney citizens are a people with a passion for our kids and their activities: academics, agriculture and sports. Our children do not face the many problems other children deal with on a day to day basis in the larger school systems.
Carney has a rich heritage of the days gone by. At one time a town milling with
business, we now boost our own bank (est. in 1902), two convenience stores, a
cafe, barber shop and two beauty shops, RV park, Laundromat, a manufacturing of
oil field equipment and many more small businesses. Carney is a prime location
for most any new business that needs an inexpensive start up location. |
